Even though today was just as busy and I was out of my studio for most of it, I found an hour to mediate by making a drawing. My medium of choice, from the time I was around five years old, is graphite. Back in those days my pencil was one of those big fat things they give you in grammar school. Ugh. I have graduated to a much finer point. These days I use Alvin Draft/Matic mechanical pencils, in three sizes: a 0.3 mm, a 0.5 mm, and a 0.7 mm. I use a variety of leads of different hardnesses from 4H to 2B. To erase--something I do a lot--I use a Tombow MONO zero Elastomer Eraser. I make my drawings in Stillman & Birn sketchbooks. This raccoon was drawn on an 8.5 by 5.5 inch landscape-format softcover Beta series sketchbook. I like the scritchy sound the pencil makes as I drag it across the heavy paper.
