One trick many artists use to jump start themselves over a painter’s block is to revisit old works for inspiration. Such was the case with this series of travel drawings; drawings made to commemorate a twenty-one day trip to Paris and Vienna in December, 2006.
I began the process by tearing saved monotype prints which, for one reason or another, were not successful as large works, into smaller 4 x 6 inch sizes, dimensions equivalent to a picture post card. Once torn, newer imaging possibilities presented themselves.Â
As I worked into the altered prints, in some cases, the latent imagery suggested empirical experience.  In others, the intrinsic structure seemed to point toward a more subjective remembrance. In both cases, I followed where the lines lead me; to, in essence, find and uncover the underlying structure of the drawing.
With this series of images I bring a new perspective to the places I visited in December, 2006: Paris, Versailles, and Moulins, France, and Vienna, Austria. All the drawings are small, no bigger than a postcard. Each of the images portrays an indelible individual impression of my travels.
